Obituary for Sitaramayya Vedantam

Our Family is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Sitaramayya Vedantam, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather
--------------------------
Vedantam Sitaramayya (85) passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023.

Sitaramayya was born to Anjaneyulu garu and Manikyamma garu on the 1st of July in 1937, the 3rd of 4 siblings. He was born and spent his childhood in Kuchipudi, Andhra Pradesh, India. As a child and throughout his life, he was a lover of nature, Carnatic music, and Kuchipudi dance.

His inquisitive and creative nature, developed as a child, led to a successful career in civil engineering. He started off as a lecturer in an engineering college in Machilipatnam. He then moved on to the Andhra Pradesh Public Works Department as an engineer and was employed there until his retirement as an executive engineer. Over the course of his career, he worked on many high-impact and challenging projects in remote areas of the state. He took a consistently tough stance against corruption throughout his career – while this led to some resistance, he was able to push through and prevail in every situation.

In parallel to his career in engineering, his love for making a difference led him to pursue a diploma in homeopathic medicine. After his training, he went on to practice for many years, even after retiring from his engineering career. To this day, there are many who credit their health and well-being to his treatment, guidance, and advice.

Following retirement, Sitaramayya realized his dream of studying Carnatic music (through vocal and violin training) and Kuchipudi dance. He enrolled in the Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music College, the only senior retiree among a myriad of young students, to learn vocal Carnatic and Kuchipudi dance. He studied violin under the tutelage of Annavaram Ramaswamy in Vijaywada for many years.

He is survived by his wife (Visalakshi Vedantam), daughter and son-in-law (Lakshmi and Krishna Kumar Yeleswarapu), elder son and daughter-in-law (Srinivas and Aruna Vedantam), younger son and daughter-in-law (Sundar and Sailaja Vedantam), six grandchildren and spouses (Priya and Ashok Chandrashekhar, Ravi Vedantam, Shriya and Karthik Kalapatapu, Deepthi and Srikanth Yeleswarapu, Rachana Vedantam, and Srikar Vedantam), and two beloved great-grandchildren (Adithya and Divya Chandrashekhar).

He also leaves behind his younger sister and brother-in-law, Sitarama Lakshmi and Y.J.L. Narasimham, and a large extended family.
