In Loving Memory of Ravi Kohli

On Saturday, January 21, 2023, Ravi Chander Kohli of East Windsor NJ, beloved husband of Nirmal
Kohli (deceased), loving father of of sons Rajiv and Kennedy Kohli and proud grandfather of four,
passed away at the age of 94 in Hamilton, NJ, one month shy of his 95 th birthday.
Ravi was born in Rawalpindi, Punjab (now Pakistan) in 1928 to Harnam and Veerwali Kohli. Ravi’s
mother, Veerwali, died when he was a young man, and he was raised by his paternal Uncle in
Dehradun. Ravi married Nirmal Chadha and together they raised two boys, Rajiv and Kennedy, and
travelled the world in search of better opportunities. The young family lived in Dehradun, Bombay,
Tanzania, Chandigarh and Tehran from where they emigrated to Flushing, Queens shortly before the
fall of the Shah in 1979.
From Queens NY, Ravi’s career took him to Albany, NY from where he and Nirmal settled and later
retired after many years with the New York State Department of Taxation. After retirement, Ravi and
Nirmal moved to New Jersey to be closer to their sons and their grandchildren.
Ravi was an intellectual who enjoyed reading biographies of leaders and watching old movies,
particularly from the WWII generation. He enjoyed a good game of chess and was a competitive
Bridge player. In his later years he was a fixture on the Bridge scene at the East Windsor Senior
Center. He led a modest life and was generous and kind to those in need. Above all, he was a
principled man who lived life according to the truths he held dear.
Ravi is survived by his sons Rajiv and Kennedy, daughter-in-law Sharda and grandchildren Hema,
Sonika, Akiti and Vijar.
