Obituary for Nancy B. Fedder

Nancy Bernadette Fedder passed away in Princeton, NJ at sunrise on June 22, 2021. She was born in Jersey City, NJ on August 18, 1947 to Elizabeth (Hamilton) and Herman Fedder. Nancy was 73 years old, but 35 at heart.

Nancy began her career as a cashier at ShopRite in 1964, where she met and later married Bill Hardy. Together they have one daughter, Christine. The couple divorced in 1975. After a brief stint in real estate followed by a trip across the country with a preschooler in a VW, Nancy started her own business in 1977. With a passion for the outdoors and graphic arts, her 1st entrepreneurial adventure was aptly named Sun Graphics (later renamed Graphic Solutions). Nancy provided top notch typesetting and graphic design services to the publishing industry. Always eager to master new technology, Nancy took on the role of plant manager at Publishers Phototype International in 1981 where she was responsible for the publication process of many well known magazines (i.e., Newsweek, Cosmopolitan). While she loved the people and the work, the job took its toll on her family life. Always a fiercely independent woman, Nancy left PPI and went back to being her own boss in 1986, until she retired in 2018. Fedder Solutions provided two very different work products - designing and building extensive databases that managed everything from people to products to payroll, and creating elaborate technical drawings for IEEE print and digital publications. While shy, private and never one to brag, Nancy was proud of her professional accomplishments over the years.

Personally, Nancy was passionate about her family and friends, political activism, photography, STEM, good music, gardening, and her beloved cats. In her early years, she was very active with the Gay Activist Alliance (GAA) in Northern NJ. Nancy began marching for gay rights in 1975, holding numerous committe and leadership positions within GAA over the years. Nancy met and legally married Elizabeth Barton in 1992. They divorced in 2001 but remained good friends until Liz's passing in 2015. For the first decade of the century, Nancy was active with the inception of the New Jersey Medical Marjiuana Program (NJMMP). She volunteered in the early days of raising awareness and funds, helping to craft policy, and frequently testified as the case moved up to the state senate. She was instrumental in legalizing medical marjuana in the state of NJ.

Nancy is survived by her sister, Lindy Gideon (Indiana), her daughter, Christine Hutchinson, her 2 granddaughters, Brielle & Nikali Hutchinson, and her godsons, James & Andrew Zimbardi and their children (New Jersey). Preceding her in death are her parents, Elizabeth (Hamilton) and Herman Fedder; her ex husband, William Hardy; and her ex wife, Elizabeth Barton.

It is Nancy's wish that her body be cremated and sprinkled in her daughter's garden. Given the pandemic and that many of Nancy's friends are scattered throughout the country, no in person services will be held at this time. Instead, she hopes her loved ones will remember the good times you shared together, and send her some love and light, knowing that she is at peace with her loved ones who have already passed on.

Services will be private and are under the respectful care and direction of Funeral Director, Christine A. Cuoco of Ruby Memorial Funeral & Cremation Services in North Brunswick, NJ. Private Cremation will take place on Friday, June 25, 2021 at The Crematory at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Nancy's memory to the National MS Society at https://www.nationalmssociety.org/
