Obituary for Nagji Keshavji Vira

IN LOVING MEMORY of our beloved departed -
Nagji K Vira, 78, who passed away peacefully in his home in Colonia, NJ on December 9, 2022.

Nagji was born in July 1944 in the Village of Vadala in the District of Kutch, India to his late parents, Mr. Keshavji Ravji Vira and Mrs. Purbai Vira.

He spent his early childhood in Kutch and completed his secondary education in Mumbai, India. He received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Bombay.

Nagji immigrated to the United States in 1970 to pursue his MBA in Accounting at the University of Palm Beach. He landed his first job as an accountant in Brooklyn, NY.

In 1994, Nagji founded Payless Mortgage Corporation, which he successfully built and managed for over 28 years until his passing. He advised and mentored countless individuals who desired to buy homes or to build livelihoods. By providing or arranging for financing, he gave people an opportunity to experience the joys of home ownership or to start or grow business ventures. Professionally, Nagji was known for his hard work ethic, good moral character and integrity. He will also be remembered for his compassion and generosity, as he utilized his success to help many new immigrant arrivals adjust and settle into their new way of life in America.

Nagji's life centered around his strong faith, his community, his friends and his family. He was very spiritual and an active supporter of the Jain Vishwa Bharati of North America (JVBNA), serving on its board for over a decade. Nagji touched many lives, and his gentle and unassuming personality helped him cultivate numerous lasting friendships over the years.

To his grandchildren, Nagji (Dada) was extremely affectionate. They knew Dada for his laughs and funny faces, loved playing cards and pickle ball with him, and competed for the precious opportunities to sleep beside him during family sleepovers. To his children, Nagji was a devoted father whose counsel and experience were always sought after when making significant life decisions. And to his wife, he was a wonderful, caring husband, provider and protector.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Indu Vira; two sons - Bijal and Paras Vira; daughters-in-law - Dr. Anjali Vira and Dr. Ritu Vira; four precious grandchildren - Isha Vira, Roshan Vira, Kiran Vira and Dilan Vira; his brother, Navin Vira; and sisters - Bhanumati Shah, Chanchal Chheda, and Shanta Gala.
