Obituary for Michael Vincent Jenkins

In Loving Memorial of Michael Vincent Jenkins ~ Age 64

Michael V. Jenkins passed away at his home on February 1, 2023 after a brief illness. A lifetime Edison resident, Mike was born on October 19, 1958 to Robert E. Jenkins Sr. and Madge Hudson Jenkins, the fourth of six siblings. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Robert E. Jenkins Jr. and brother in law Scott G. Yaede. Left to cherish his memory is his brother Thomas Jenkins of Edison, and his sisters Joanne Jenkins Clarke (Joe) of Edison, Mary Jane Jenkins Yaede of New Brunswick and Judy Jenkins O’Reilly (Joe) of Bluffton, SC. Mike is also survived by his loving nieces Erin Clarke (fiancé Chris Balint) and Jackie Clarke Fedor (Dan), great nephew Hunter Ryan Fedor and great niece Harper Grace Fedor. Mike will be greatly missed by his companion Lexine Skinner as well as his many friends and his large Irish family who loved him dearly. His cat Rory misses him too!

Mike worked as a senior water treatment operator for the City of New Brunswick Water Utility for many years. He was a long standing member of New Brunswick BPOE Elks.
Mike was a gifted athlete and an avid sports fan, devoted to his beloved Boston Red Sox. He was a fan of the NY Giants, the Boston Celtics and followed all of Rutgers sports. Mike was a talented athlete himself, in particular in softball, where he played with the champion Park Pub Gators in the Highland Park Softball League. He also enjoyed his time coaching the Lady Gators.

Mike loved nature and the outdoors, whether it was biking, hiking, swimming or kayaking, he would share pictures he took of rare birds or animals or of anything interesting that he spotted in his travels. He was a bicycle enthusiast and looked forward to participating in the annual NY Bike Tour, which he did many times. Mike could be seen riding his bike around town in all kinds of weather. He loved swimming at the Jersey shore and loved to travel. He traveled to Taiwan several times, as well as many places within the US and the Caribbean. Music was another passion of Mikes, and he saw numerous concerts over the years, especially of rock, pop, punk, reggae and ska bands.

People knew Mike as a friendly and kind person, and he will be missed by his many friends and neighbors. He loved his family more than life itself and they loved him back in equal measure. A viewing and celebration of his life will be announced at a later date from Ruby Memorial, North Brunswick, NJ.
