Obituary for Mary Alfano Cook

Mary Alfano Cook (formerly Santa Maria), 87, of Kendall Park, previously of Bayonne, passed away on February 7, 2023. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary was born on January 16, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ to Pasquale and Giovanina (nee Ré) Alfano. Mary worked for the Bayonne Board of Education as an administrative assistant and academic scheduler for 20 years before retiring in the early 2000s. She was a devout Catholic who attended Mass every day prior to the pandemic. She loved spending time with family, cooking, reading suspense novels and listening to music. She kept an impeccable home and enjoyed shopping, particularly picking out new furniture. Mary is survived by her three children Dr. Vincent Santa Maria Sr. (Ronnie), Gina Cubberly (Edward) and Ann Marie Konopka (Dr. Joseph Konopka). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Carrissa Golomb (Cary), Vincent A. and Nicholas Santa Maria, Jake and Haley Konopka. Mary was great-grandmother to Dean and Reese Golomb. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as brother Frank Alfano, and her sisters Ida Mastromonaco, Elsie Doria and Florence Limon.

Cremation was privately held at The Crematory at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick, NJ.

A mass of remembrance will take place on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Peace Church 1730 US-130, North Brunswick Township, NJ 08902.

Private Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
