Obituary for Dr. Josef Kolenski

Dr. Josef Kolenski, born on May 10, 1926, passed away peacefully in his home on May 2nd 2021. Beyond his professional career as a psychiatrist/neurologist, Dr. Kolenski filled his life with teaching, lecturing, painting, writing and extensive traveling. Dr. Kolenski is survived by many friends, students and admirers of his work throughout America, Europe and Russia.

Dr. Kolenski started painting at a very young age. He received awards in grammar school for his art work. Similarities exist between his works in grammar school to the rest of his paintings throughout his life time.

While in the Army, he worked as a plastic surgeon to fix the disfiguration of parrot troopers’ ears. Despite excellent results due to his artistic skills, he chose to leave the lucrative field of plastic surgery to study Neurology and Psychiatry, where he would be in better position to help people with more serious health conditions.

Dr. Josef Kolenski became a Hinayana Buddhist monk early in his adult life while traveling in Thailand and India. In the book, “Growing Older Without Growing Old”, Dr. Kolenski wrote a chapter titled “The Buddhist Way of Ageing”. His Buddhist’s way of life has allowed him to accept his death many decades ago. This is discussed in the chapter.

He was a Trustee at Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn from 1976 to 1981.

He has published several books “The Anatomy of Art and Stimulation”, “The Proof of Inherited Acquire Characteristics” and “The Holistic Theory of Evolution”. He has been working on revisions of The Anatomory of Art and Stimulation and The Holistic Theory of Evolution up to the last week of his death. Both revisions should be available within the next 3 months.

Dr. Kolenski's art work is a reflection of a compassionate, worldly, intelligent Buddhist who experienced suffering at a very young age but overcame his desires and accepted life as Buddha.
