Obituary for James Russell "Jimmie" Savage

The Savage Family is sad to announce the passing of their beloved, James Savage.
~~~~~~
Hailing from Newark, NJ, Jimmie Savage – “AKA” Jersey Jim to his friends, was born on Sept. 22, 1938. He spent his earlier life going to school, helping his father with a vegetable cart and his mother with household chores. From there, he commenced to Barringer High School (the oldest high school in the U.S.). While in high school, he qualified and won at the Penn Relays. After graduating from Barringer, Jimmie went on to Central State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Post-graduation he started teaching in Ohio to grades 2-6. He returned to Orange, NJ to work as a science coordinator for the school system. With that experience under his belt, he felt that more education would help him in his future endeavors. He attended Seton Hall University and graduated with a master’s in business administration. Post-graduation, after being courted by the top pharmaceutical business entities (such as Merck) he went on to work for Hoffman La-Roche and eventually became the top salesperson in the country for a few years running. He traveled throughout the US and to Western Europe on their behalf.
Eventually, with the desire to start and run his own business, he became the Owner/Operator of RAM Pest Control out of Franklin Township, NJ. His business was and still is the only pest control business allowed to have electric signage in the entire Township. During his pest control career, he was extremely successful in attracting and maintaining well-known and extensive clientele such as Rutgers University and Robert Wood Johnson hospital. Rutgers University requested his help in creating the base layer of education for the NJ Pest Control Licensing Division testing. His favorite task in extermination was the identification and treatment of termites, which in the early 80s was a booming service in NJ!
Throughout his life, he was an avid traveler to most of the world: Africa, Eastern and Western Europe, India, Thailand, and Japan. His favorite trip that he repeated several times was safaris in Africa.
In addition, he became an avid and accomplished oil painter. In 2019, he was awarded Best Recreational Oil Artist by the NJ State Art Citizen Show.
In recent years, he resided at The Parker in Monroe (Monroe, NJ). During this time, his spirits were very high, and he was beloved by all staff and clients.
He is predeceased by his parents (Leroy & Beatrice Savage, brother (Leroy Savage) and sister (Victoria Savage). He is survived by a son (Myles Savage) and a daughter (Kimberly Savage) and a whole host of nieces and nephews.
His smile and humor will be missed!
