Obituary for Harishbhai Gordhanbhai Patel
HARISHBHAI G. PATEL (1950-2019)
With an immensely heavy heart we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Harishbhai Gordhanbhai Patel, on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Born in 1950 in Chaklashi, Gujarat, Harishbhai graduated with a Law degree and went on to marry Sudha Patel in 1975. With undeniable courage and vision, they started a journey that took them from India, to England, to America, with many other adventures and explorations around the world with family and friends.
You may know Harishbhai as your uncle, your neighbour, your colleague, your insurance agent, or your friend. We knew him as a husband, father and grandfather who relentlessly taught us to love unconditionally, be unflinchingly strong, to come to the table with solutions not problems, and to always make the best of every situation.
In our grief, we remain strong, knowing this is who he raised us to be. His unquestionable love for all his family and friends. His love of life. His acceptance of everyone, and refusal to judge or dismiss anyone. How much he enjoyed being with family and friends, hearing and telling funny anecdotes sprinkled with a classic Gujarati kahevat; sharing with us the wisdom only he knew. His ability to weigh all sides of a situation and convey his thoughts with such eloquence, you couldn’t help but place your faith in him – and he always delivered. His voice, his gentleness, his laughter, his thoughtfulness, and his warmth will continue to embrace each of us as we walk together in his memory.
A beloved husband, father and grandfather has left us, and we mourn for our loss. But, as we reflect on this painful moment, this is also a cause for celebration, for we know we created magnificent memories together. Today, we are all better for having had the honour to call him our Dad. It is our privilege to relish in his wisdom and continue to build upon the spirit he had for his family and his community.

Harishbhai is survived by his wife, Sudha Patel; three daughters, Pina Patel and her husband Sapan Inamdar, Priti Patel, and Parita Patel and her husband Roberto Sepúlveda; three grandchildren, Dhilan, Laila, and Esha Inamdar; and several nieces and nephews.
