Obituary for Basil GR Ramnarace

In Loving Memory of Basil GR Ramnarace

On Thursday, January 9, 2020, Basil GR Ramnarace of Davenport, FL, beloved husband of Padma Ramnarace and father of Sharda, Bheesh and Sid, passed away at the age of 79 in Princeton, NJ.

Basil was the patriarch of our large extended family. He was charismatic and beloved by everyone he met and knew. His generosity of spirit was unparalleled. Born on October 11, 1940 in Guyana, Basil immigrated to the United States in September 1968, and was followed shortly thereafter by Padma, Sharda and Bheesh in March 1969. Four years later the family was complete with the birth of Sid. It took courage, faith and a sense of adventure for Basil to leave his beloved homeland, but once he arrived in the United States, he embraced this country and pursued the American Dream by instilling his love of education, philosophy, nature and the arts in his children and grandchildren. Through Basil’s kindness and perseverance, he was able to bring both his and Padma’s families from Guyana to the United States and Canada where the large extended families thrived. Basil was a Renaissance man, in the truest sense, and he lived his life accordingly. He worked hard and had a long, varied and successful career, as an auditor, accountant, and domestic and international contracting specialist. He traveled in the US extensively, and worked abroad in Barbados and Saudi Arabia. He was devoted to his family and instilled in his children and grandchildren his love of cooking, music, fishing, spirituality and nature. Basil loved life and he lived fully showering kindness, love and affection on everyone he met.

Basil is survived by his wife of 58 years Padma, daughter Sharda, sons Bheesh and Sid, son-in-law Kennedy, daughters-in-law Debbie and Cynthia, grandchildren Sonika, Hema, Kiritin, Arun, Mira and Miles, sisters Dassiah (Lilly) Singh and Ruth Ramrattan, and his beloved nieces, nephews and their children and grand-children.
