~~~~~~
Ann Bussell Zimmerman died peacefully at home in West Windsor, New Jersey, with her family on Friday, March 3. She was 87 years old. She is survived by a brother, Franklin Simpson (Carol), and a sister, Jean Sugg (Alan), two sons, Jonathan (Alison) and Jeffrey (Carmenza) Lowrie, and two stepdaughters, Susan Elliot (Marv) and Laurie Paschall (Al) and eight grandchildren -Luisa, Victoria, Scout, Kelson, and Coral. Fortunately, though, she had a very large dining table to host holiday feasts. Her husband Edward's (Ted) death preceded hers by 11 years.
Ann was raised in rural West Helena, Arkansas, but she lived in many different places including Hawaii, Memphis, New Orleans, Chicago, and finally the greater New York area (New Canaan, CT and West Winsor, NJ), but her Southern accent never really left her. Wherever she lived, she kept a circle of close friends whose company she enjoyed greatly.
When not socializing, she enjoyed playing cards, word games, and watching Jeopardy. She was accomplished at needlepoint as well as cooking/baking. Her renown secret recipes will remain with her family. An avid collector of antiques, her home décor often echoed the simpler era of her youth.
Ann played a wide range of roles professionally in Primary Education, Office Administration, Catering, and finally Childcare. While she was adept at all, helping children may have been her favorite.
Ann faced more than her share of hardship in life such as the childhood loss of her father, a divorce from a previous husband, and various unfavorable medical diagnoses, she had the grit to bounce back from them all to live a long and fulfilling life. This may be her greatest accomplishment.
There will be a celebration of life for Ann on Sunday May 21 from
11-1 at her home.
